A journey to the cosmos

More work? Alright.

Such a busy weekend, but I must must update before work! And let me preface this by saying this was one of the hardest features to write for me, not because im pressed for time, but because this is one of the few artists that I find very little comparison to form other music I've heard. And thats a good thing.

So lets talk about an artist I've been a fan of for a few months now (in both his writing and music), Mr. Pulsar. Unfortunately his site is still under construction, but his music is indeed complete, and executed magnificiently. Recently released (via free rar download)"A Journey to the Cosmos" sounds like an electric journey through space. What the album lacks in vocalization, it makes up for in depth. The music feels like its pulling you into space, with quick space-age tones. If I had to compare the sound to anything I've heard before, then I would have to compare it to one of the all time greats, Daft Punk.

"Neutron Stars", a track from the release, sounds like two different tracks, but as a whole convey the feeling of going into space, discovering something, and then jumping into lightspeed. Truly a long time must've gone into the composition of "A Journey to the Cosmos" and I hope that when you spend some time with it, you can listen to it and just think "wow, it really is as the name says it is." I know I did.

Duality is the spice of life

Need more energy!

After a long two weeks I have finally found the time (and the energy) to finally update and since I feel somewhat guilty that I didnt provide any musical feedback last week, this week will be a two shotter.

First up, we have a band I recently heard of from a friend. They go by the name Minus the Bear and after the release of many singles they have recently debuted "Planet of Ice" with thier single off of the same record titled "Knights".

Thier instrumentation is similar to The Postal Service and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs while the vocals are soft and melodical. Suicide Squeeze Records describes the band as "having orbited the music world like a distant meteor, fine-tuning their unique brand of indie rock and discovering how technology can help enhance the band's unique pop vision." and I couldnt agree more. Just listening to the music from thier site (which allows you to listen to the full length CD, linked above) makes you see the depth in music they can achieve.

Enjoy discovering this band, I know I did. Another band will go up tomorrow, then another this thursday!

Also, you may have noticed a slight writing style fix, I find this is much more confortable as I dont have to worry as much about formatting and feel like it will be alot more confortable to read.

Featured Artist: Peter, Bjorn, and John

Peter, Bjorn, and John (or PB&J)

______________

Music style: Folksy, melodic (both vocal and instrumental)

Appeals to: Fans of bands like the Decemberists and early Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs.

History (Ripped directly from Pandora): Peter Bjorn and John were formed in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1999. Made up of members Peter Morén on vocals, guitar, and harmonica; Björn Yttling on vocals, bass, vocals, and keyboards; and John Eriksson on drums, percussion, and vocals, the band is influenced by the sounds of classic '60s baroque pop, power pop, and new wave, but the guys aren't revivalists. Instead they created some of the most exciting and original indie rock of the mid-2000s. The band began playing gigs soon after forming and quickly began appearing on compilations alongside artists like Sahara Hotnights, Badly Drawn Boy, and Holiday for Strings. After releasing three singles (The Forbidden Chords EP, Failing and Passing, and I Don't Know What I Want Us to Do), the band released its self-titled first album in 2002 on the tiny Beat That! label. After more shows and more singles (People They Know, See Through) and an EP (100 M of Hurdles), the group jumped to the Planekonomi label in 2004 and released the Beats, Traps and Backgrounds EP. It was soon followed by the wonderful 2004 full-length release Falling Out, which was picked up for American release by Hidden Adenda in late 2005. The record placed them, along with the Concretes, the Shout Out Louds (both of whom Yttling has produced records for), and the Legends, at the forefront of the sparkling wave of great pop bands coming from Sweden. Their third album, Writer's Block, followed a year later, buoyed by the catchy single "Young Folks". ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide

Blog Dedication

This blog is dedicated to and for indie music. I will try and feature a new artist every week or so, hopefully people will see this and find some new interesting music. At least the general mass media is embracing indie music just a bit.
